Ian McKay is a Manchester-based painter and print maker, working from Rogue Artist Studios in Gorton.
Ian enjoys working with paint, print and photography to communicate visually.
His ‘Venice’ series are on sale in our pop-up shop. These stunning limited edition prints are combined screen and woodcut prints on Zerkall Handmade Copper Press Paper.
Ian developed the works from a recent trip to Venice, using colour studies, drawings and photographs taken on location.
Ian’s practice is inspired and influenced by a wide range of artists, photographers and film. Including artists Turner, Matisse, Jasper Johns, Ed Rushca and Francis Bacon, photographers Tony Ray Jones and Martin Parr, and film makers Terence Davies and Ken Loach.
The three beautiful prints in the ‘Venice’ series speak to the viewer about memories and the fluidity of spaces and captured moments in time. The colours and etherial fluidity of the prints build a strong sense of place and even a haunting sense of presence, challenging the viewer to contemplate layers of interpretation.
Print size 14.8cm w x 22.3cm h and has a white mount board cut surround 30cm w x 40cm h.
