Express Yourself! 10-Week Challenge
On behalf of Manchester Libraries, Creative City has produced a fantastic 10-week programme of creative challenges. Each week two new challenge videos will be released at creativespacesmcr.com, starting Monday 4 May.
Join the challenge! The project is a chance to get creative, stay connected, enjoy the good vibes and express yourself! Designed for you to join in with from home. Share your work on social media using #CreativeSpacesMcr
This 10-week challenge has been put together in collaboration with a group of brilliant Manchester artists and young creatives. The Express Yourself team are: Yelena, Kofi, Anita, Beth, RP Roberts, Nasima, Jamie, Fran, Hanaa and Hafsah
They’ve crafted a series of short weekly creative tasks just for you, responding to a weekly theme.
The aim of the tasks are to keep your creative juices flowing, to introduce you to a few new arts techniques, and to throw some positive thinking into the mix.
Here’s the creative team's advice while taking on this challenge:
Stick with it, try every task
Rough is good
Silly is good
Try not to overthink each challenge
Get lost in the moment
Be resourceful! Don’t worry about what materials you don’t have - its all about using what you do have.
You are not alone! Sending you good vibes the whole way.
Activities include sketching, writing, rapping, dance and drawing, with each challenge presenting the opportunity to try something new. The different weekly themes celebrate the spirit of libraries, and include community, strength, self and empathy.
Brought to you by Manchester Libraries as part of the Creative Spaces programme. Express Yourself is one of the ways Manchester Libraries are continuing to deliver their creative programme and support the local artistic community whilst lockdown is in place. It's been a pleasure to be able to help libraries stay strong during this time, and to connect in to the needs of young people, and create resources that are helpful for youth workers, schools and community groups too.

Stay home, stay safe, stay creative, stay connected, and express yourself!
As well as this online challenge, we've created a beautiful booklet containing every challenge to go out to youth groups and members of the community who are less able to take part online, and packs with resources and stationary too. These have gone out to hundreds of young people in Manchester.
Contact Beth Powell via firstname.lastname@example.org if you run a youth or community group who would benefit from booklets or resource packs.
